Writing Recounts - Lesson 1 - What are Recounts?
This engaging and purposeful lesson is the first in a series of lessons that enable children to gradually build towards composing an effective, well-structured recount. The first lesson focuses on what recounts are, establishing the main features and techniques.

In this engaging and important lesson, students explore the key meanings of the Lord’s Prayer. They consider why the prayer is so important for Christians, and also begin to think about the words and phrases in life that are special to them.
The learning is guided by a clear and colourful PowerPoint presentation, which guides students through the following step-by-step journey:
-Reflecting on and recalling knowledge that they already built about special words and stories in Christianity;
-Considering the words and phrases that are special to them in their lives;

In this engaging and informative lesson, students develop their understanding of the Bible, the Megillat Esther, and the Guru Granth Sahib, through comparing and contrasting the three texts. They learn and remember key facts about the texts, before discovering how to use connectives to write comparing and contrasting sentences.
The learning is guided by a clear and colourful PowerPoint presentation, which guides students through the following step-by-step journey:
-Playing an engaging game (embedded in slide show) to remember key facts about the Bible, the Megillat Esther and the Guru Granth Sahib);

RE - Islam - Makkah and the Ka'aba!
In this engaging and comprehensive lesson, students are introduced to the city of Makkah and the Ka’aba - holy places in the religion of Islam. They explore:
-Where Makkah is and why it is a special place in Islam;
-What and where the Ka’aba is, and how it is visited by pilgrims;
-The story of Muhammad purifying the Ka’aba.
Students learn through recalling prior knowledge, understanding new knowledge (presented in an engaging format using pictures and bullet points) and answering questions about what they have learnt. They also piece together the different sections of the story of Muhammad and the Ka’aba.
The lesson is tried and tested, and is easy for teachers and students to follow. It contains a comprehensive 17-slide Powerpoint which offers a step-by-step guide throughout the lesson. It also includes the ‘mixed-up’ story of Muhammad and the Ka’aba on a separate sheet, and an answer sheet for teachers. Challenge activities are provided in order to enrich learning for higher-attaining learners.

In this engaging lesson, students are introduced to who Jesus Christ was, and learn of his significance to Christians.

Around the World in 80 Days - Jules Verne - Whole Class Reading Session!
This whole class reading session aims to develop children’s comprehension skills through a reading of the opening chapter of Jules Verne’s ‘Around the World in 80 Days.’
The resource pack includes the extract and all of the activities for the session, which the class are guided through via a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation. The reading is followed by a series of activities aiming to develop children’s retrieval, explanation, inference, prediction and summarising skills. It also contains a vocabulary check immediately after the extract is read to clarify any unfamiliar/ difficult language.
The tasks are comprised of quick-check questions, solo thinking, pair/ group discussions and deeper thinking activities.
The session is best suited for children in Year 7 and 8, but it could feasibly be used with slightly younger or older year groups. The session is also suitable for home/ remote learning.
